Travel in Italy – Verona

We arrived in Verona by 5:30 and took a taxi to Hotel Accademia where we were greeted by the very pleasant Sara at the reception desk. She informed us that we had been upgraded to a superior room and that was such a wonderful surprise!

Never did I expect the room to be so luxurious and it essentially amounted to the closest thing to a suite. Hotel rooms in Italy are usually small by American standards and this was very large, including an entranceway and dressing area separate from the bedroom area.

The bathroom was completely done in pink marble for which Verona is famous. There are even pink marble streets here.

The view from the window was of via Mazzini, the main street in Venice where everyone walks and runs between Piazza delle Erbe and Piazza Bra.

In addition there is a double door which opens outside to an extremely large terrace/patio where you can walk around. Bellissima! I wish I were staying here for a week!

After unpacking Sue and I had some laundry to do by hand and after that we walked the short distance to Piazza delle Erbe and had dinner at the century old restaurant, Caffe` Filippini.

I enjoyed a glass of Valpolicella, Verona’s own wine, and a delicious dinner of tortelloni with ricotta and spinach.

I love the food and I really love the pink marble bathroom. I have always loved marble but don’t think I ever saw pink. I have seen green which is pretty wonderful too Now that I know pink is sort of a Verona specialty I can ask around for Verona marble. Sounds as good as it looks.
