Memoirs of a Solo Traveler – My Love Affair with Italy

I have exciting news today! No I am not leaving anytime soon for Italy but my book has just been published! This is my first book, and it is based on my blog and the three months I spent in Italy on a solo adventure in 2011.

“Memoirs of a Solo Traveler – My Love Affair with Italy”   is what I have been working on since the spring, and has much more detail than I could include on my blog.  Some of the details I actually didn’t want to include in the blog at the time either.

Originally I had planned on publishing it only as an eBook for several reasons, one being price. You can buy it for $2.99 and within seconds have it on your iPad, Kindle, iPhone or computer. A lot of   friends and followers of this blog  have asked for a print version, so I decided to go ahead with that as well.

As of now the eBook is available through Amazon and soon should be available through Barnes and Noble for the Nook as well.

I am waiting to receive the print version so I can proof it and then it will be available on Amazon as well, hopefully soon. I will keep you posted. I am interested in feedback, good and bad, so feel free to comment please. Self-publishing my first book has definitely been a learning process, and continues to be. But the cool thing for me is that as I was writing, and revising, I was able to relive those experiences  as though I was right back in Italy again!

This is the book description I wrote:

“Having dreamed of the chance to return to Italy and stay for an extended period of time, Margie Miklas embarked on a solo adventure and left for Italy in the spring of 2011. Spending months planning an itinerary that would take her to almost every region of Italy from the Aosta Valley to Sicily, she traveled to over fifty towns in the three months she spent there.

Not speaking Italian, she learned the language by taking private lessons from a teacher who grew up in Italy. Armed with this knowledge, she was able to communicate with people she met along the way, and experience the lifestyle and culture of the Italian people. She went back to the villages of her grandparents, walked the same streets they had walked, and discovered cousins she never knew she had.

“Memoirs of a Solo Traveler – My Love Affair with Italy” is based on Margie’s blog, margieinitaly, which she wrote from Italy, but with much more detail and insight.”

About Margie Miklas

An award-winning author, Margie Miklas writes medical thrillers and travel memoirs about Italy, a place which has captured her passion for travel. She is also the creator and owner of the travel blog, Margie in Italy, and a contributing writer for an Italian-American newspaper. A retired critical-care nurse, she enjoys spending time with her family, including her three cats. Her favorite place is the beach, and she likes learning new computer skills, when she is not writing. A member of the Florida Writers Association, Margie makes her home in Florida.
