So much has been happening lately between book signings, promoting my book, setting up a Facebook Author page, and communicating with people via those avenues. In between I am writing and also discovering a way to do illustrations through a new computer program. Oh yes and making plans for the Italy trip this spring. It’s a good thing I only work part-time at the hospital.
The book signings have been a lot of fun and this week I participated in two, one Thursday night in Vero Beach, which is such a great venue since it is right in front of Mulligan’s on the beach. How much better can it be than to be able to enjoy the beautiful blue ocean, listen to live music, and autograph books with other wonderful authors?
I was with two seasoned authors, and I think Bruce and Peter brought me good luck since they each have seven or eight titles and have been writing for years. It was a great night, since we all sold quite a few books, 22 among us, and six of those were mine.
That evening two exciting things occurred. One was that a woman named Melanie, who had bought my book two weeks ago and was passionate about traveling to Italy, stopped by to tell me how much she was enjoying the book. The other was that another writer and author, whom I met via Twitter, drove down from Melbourne with his wonderful family. Robbie Cox was a delight in person and he even bought one of my books. Not only that but then he wrote about it on his blog which is quite enjoyable reading. You can check it out here.
I just read a short story he wrote that is available as a free download and I loved it. “Circle of Justice is a short story that follows the journey of a gun as it falls into various hands beginning with its first killing until its last.” You can find the link on his blog.
Today was another book signing in Fort Pierce and this is a huge event that happens every Saturday from 8am-1pm. It is like a street fair with at least a hundred vendors, and always brings a large crowd. Not being an early morning person it was not so easy getting up at 6am to get there by 7 to help set up, but once I was there the excitement was building, plus I got to see a beautiful sunrise. Already all the other tents were up and people were moving around like worker bees setting up their displays of handmade items. I was one of ten authors and we all had a good day today. Another six books sold for me so I was happy. The other authors are so interesting and some of them have some powerful personal stories, which are the subjects of their books.
Anyway I am hoping to do some writing this week on my Sicily book as well as on the fiction book I have started. No book signings for me this week. Stay tuned for more exciting developments.
