Margie, I loved Napoli and I love your photos! It takes me right back there. Southern Italy is by far my favorite.
Say, I wonder if it is still true that the prettier your home is on the outside, the more taxes you have to pay? That is the way it was back in the mid ’70’s — and that’s why so many houses looked so run down but inside? Wow. Marble, shining brass fixtures and so many gorgeous gold ceiling work. Outside? Slum-ish. Some of your shots make me think of this.
Did you go any of the southern olive farms?
I await more fabulous pictures. You really need to do a new photo book.

Stephanie710, I can tell you that rich Spanish allow the outside of their villas to appear deteriorating, complete with unwashed dogs with bad attitude and broken pottery from better days. Open the first door and a small but pretty patio greats you, the further in you go the nicer and more opulent become the fixtures! They do this to discourage thieves.
But I would not take a nickel for pictures of that, these pictures from Margie seem to me to be so real and to speak of the actual lives of local people. I feel as though I must know some of these industrious and welcoming Napolians (sp).

Margie, your next book must contain photos. That is all that I am saying. The stories are A1 but the pics would put it over the top.

I love all your posts and look forward to reading and enjoy the photos so much! We have visited Naples on three different occasions renting an apartment for 2_3 weeks and using it as home base! Naples is one of my favorite places! If some one offered me a free trip anywhere in Italy I would choose Naples first and Palermo second! Your photos are amazing and bring back so many wonderful memories!!
Thank you so much for sharing them with us!!!
