  1. Very poignant…she has probably walked these cobblestone streets all of her life and tonight she walks alone…familiar and back home with her memories.

  2. I adore the streets of Italy…she has led a full life, but now, she trudges the streets alone to a small house to only sit quietly and eat…I love this picture!

Looks like a very typical scene in Italy. I agree that she has probably lived in that village and walked that street her entire life, but who knows? It would be interesting to ask her. 🙂

I agree, this is so “Italia”……the old are out and about, they are PART of the family, they still shop, stop, chat and live the life they have and enjoy it all…..a wonderful ‘normal’ street scene, they all walk everywhere, everyday…..and not alone for the most part. They could out-walk most of us……….

  5. Even though she walks alone and uphill, there is a strength in her walk. She does not let age keep her from her daily life. I wish I could paint in a young grandchild holding her hand.

Through good times and bad times, she has lived la dolce vita in bella Italia, and I am just a tad bit envious.

Such a typical scene Margie. Tired and old she can’t wait to go home and get back to her knitting 😉

A very powerful and beautiful image that, to me, evokes the true essence of the hardy Italian people and their work/life ethic: “No hill too steep, no mountain too tall…with hope and faith, we conquer them all”. Absolutely beautiful, Margie! Thanks for sharing!

    • My thoughts as well. I am amazed at the determination of these hard-working Italians. They take what may be a challenging lifestyle to many and make it a daily routine without a complaint. Thank you for your kind comments and for stopping by my blog.

  11. Heading home to enjoy lunch with her family, but she will pop out again in the early evening to catch up with her friends on their bench in the piazza.

As others mention…she probably has lived there all her life – – like many Italians do. This subject is always of interest to me because Americans tend to move more. I can’t imagine what it would be like to have lived in the same place all my life. I think it would be very nice….grow some roots. You know? I guess the important thing is to live well and appreciate life no matter where you are. Anyway….lovely pic. I love Bergamo too.
