For all the times I’ve tried to describe the Amalfi Coast road, I could never really adequately explain what this short video shows so clearly. Hi Margie! To me, the coastal cliffs of Amalfi are as timeless as the wind. This past October/Nov I rode it via bus a number of times and learned quickly that Dramamine was my new best friend. I was thankful that I had not rented a car and attempted the drive it myself; even in the slow season those tour buses go fast and there is only one lane in many places, as you know! I did accidentally find myself walking the winding turns of that coastal road though, which was a harrowing adventure of it’s own 😉 I enjoy your stories and photos, thanks for sharing.

Yes, got bus sick from twists and turns the first time on Amalfi coast. The second time was better as we saw the coast via a boat ride…so much more enjoyable and you could view the villages and countryside.

I have a Zia in Salerno so have been to the area many times. The first time I was 11 and I remember taking a boat along the coast. I think we went from Salerno to Amalfi. I also remember my whole family almost drowning in a n overcrowded tiny boat on choppy seas in Capri..Papà took a movie camera and the scenes from the boat are hilarious-although we did not think so at the time! I have not been to Positano or hiked il Sentiero dei Dei, so would like to do that some day. Ciao, Cristina

One of the best things that I have ever done including stopping for lemonade high over Positano. I always like this quote from John Steinbeck – “Flaming like a meteor we hit the coast, a road, high, high above the blue sea, that hooked and corkscrewed on the edge of nothing, a road carefully designed to be a little narrower than two cars side by side.”

I closed my eyes. We were in a group led by the importer, VIETRI, and we commissioned a bus. There is nothing like going around the turns and not seeing the road beneath you as you look straight down. Very narrow and not room for two buses to share the road, that’s for sure. I was glad to reach our destination.
