I hate to keep writing about this devastation in the Ligurian region of Italy, but these video reports by news agencies are now becoming more available, and as the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words.
This video on You Tube is from the piazza in Vernazza. I can see where I had lunch with my brother Rick. This is such a shame.

This video Cleaning up in Vernazza after the flood (Video from www.youreporter.it) clearly demonstrates how much work is entailed in the beginning clean-up phases and as you can see, most of it is manual labor. I don’t see too much machinery at work. Near the end of the video you can see why Vernazza’s train stop is still closed as it shows the arch above the railroad and the piles of mud high over the tracks.

The force of raging flood waters pushed the asphalt of the roads, along with the mud though the main streets of Vernazza; as a result the ground floor of the houses and shops and businesses were completely engulfed. What remains of the main street lies perpendicular.
One of the reasons that in many areas there cleanup effort is principally manual labor is due to the fact that many of the towns that form the Cinque Terre are isolated and can only be reached by boat or helicopter. More floods threaten the region as bad weather continues in Northern Italy. This morning at 06:03 am Italian time, a 4.2 magnitude earthquake rocked the Veneto region, epicenter of which was between Trento and Verona, near Lake Garda.
