Travel in France – The Medieval Village of Eze

After the time in Nice the bus then took us to the medieval village of Eze high in the hills and Cecile was still acting as the guide. In Eze it was very hot and I was surprised since it was at a much higher elevation.

The old town of Eze is very charming and has a lot of steps and inclined steep walkways. For this reason Sue had opted to take a different tour which was less strenuous.

Eze reminded me of the Italian village of Apricale, high above the town of San Remo.

Le Nid d’Aigle

I had lunch at the delightful hilltop restaurant, Le Nid d’Aigle and sat under an umbrella where I could feel a cool breeze and see the ocean below.

I wanted to order something French so I chose the Salad Nicoise without the tuna or anchovies.

It was the perfect choice with some French bread and olive oil.

I had time to wander around Eze and check out all the little shops tucked around the corners of this ancient town. They were each very unique and I could have spent several hours here but the time went by quickly.

The bus returned us to Cannes, where  I walked for about an hour on my own taking photos near the marina where the multimillion dollar yachts were docked and in the center of town.

I went back to the place where the awards were to be presented the following week at the Cannes International Film Festival.  Workers were preparing things  and the whole town actually was a flurry of activity as they were getting everything ready.

It was surprising to me to see the hand prints and signatures of the movie stars in plaques on the sidewalk just like in Hollywood on the Walk of Fame.

I was back on the ship by 5pm, had a cappuccino from the Studio Lounge where it is complimentary and freshened up a bit. The Studio Lounge is a new idea and this is the only ship to have it. It is an area designed for the solo traveler and the Norwegian Epic is the only cruise ship which has studio cabins for solo travelers.

Sue was not back yet, and I went to an early performance of a Beatles tribute group. It was a lot of fun and they were very entertaining. The audience was singing along and dancing in the aisles!

Later I met up with Sue and we went to get a bite to eat and then deposited a little more at the casino.  Tomorrow is an early day for me as the tour to Avignon and Aix au Provence leaves at 7am. Good night.
