Italy News – Another Earthquake Hits Northern Italy

Another earthquake has hit northern Italy in the same region as one that occurred just nine days ago. This morning’s 5.8 quake has left at least 10 people dead and has done additional damage to the historical buildings and local people’s homes.

It occurred just 25 miles north of Bologna and could be felt across all of northern Italy from coast to coast. I had visited Bologna last spring and it is a college town with many foreign students, a lot of them Americans.

Italian authorities, last week, declared that northern Italy will be under a state of emergency until July 21, 2012 ( two full months), as aftershocks and more earthquakes have been expected. Actually another, smaller, new earthquake struck the southern region of Emilia Romagna two days ago as well.

I read about this while you were still out of contact and also the resultant 20,000 policemen to maintain sanity. Italy has truly had its share of grief this year. May this be the last challenge for a long time to come.
