Going to Italy to Write

Writing _ Photo by Margie MiklasI will be leaving for Italy in less than a month and my main purpose in going this time is to spend time in a beautiful peaceful setting to relax and to write. The Amalfi Coast, and specifically, Positano is that place where I feel most relaxed and inspired. For me this special place on the Tyrhhenian Sea is magical and like a Paradise. When I am there I wish I could stay forever.

So this trip I am indulging my dreams and am staying in a beach side hotel where I have a balcony that opens to the sea and I can hear the sound of the waves as they roll against the shore a few hundred feet away.

Fornillo Beach in Positano Photo by Margie MiklasI am not going here to play tourist or to run around sightseeing every day. Instead I am going here to write, to be inspired to work on my novel that I began two years ago and hope to complete and publish in early 2017.

Stairway in Positano - Photo by Margie MiklasWhile I am dedicating most of my time there to writing, I am not going to be a hermit and never leave the hotel. I plan on walking every day, and staircases like this one are the only way to reach the center of town. So I will be sure to get my daily dose of Italian exercise.

I do plan on a few things while I am  there, so stay tuned. I am intent on hiking the Path of the Gods, an activity that I never would have even considered a few years ago. I am a little more fit and in better shape now, so I am eager to experience this walk high above the town. In case you missed my post about it, you can read more about this here. I will definitely be posting photos on Facebook from that hike, even though I may not have time  to write about it until after I return home.

I’m interested in your thoughts, so please leave a comment.

Grazie and Ciao.

If you aren’t already following me on my Facebook page, please check it out. Lots going on there.

    Ciao Margie,
I really enjoy your blog! I spend a lot of time in Sorrento, so I relate to your writing. This trip will be wonderful because you are doing what you have been dreaming of doing. You will enjoy the hike. Two friends of mine did it last May. They were tired but loved it! I’ll be in Sorrento in October. I rent a cute little studio near Piazza Tasso. It’s perfect for me, nothing fancy. I’ve been going twice a year for 5-6 weeks at a time. I’m becoming part of the fabric of life there. I love it! I make more friends each time I go. It feels like a second home. Enjoy your trip. I can’t wait to see your pictures and read your blog!
    Saluti e buon viaggio!

  7. Following in the footsteps of Steinbeck – “Positano bites deep. It is a dream place that isn’t quite real when you are there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone”.

I wish I could remember the name of the book I read that made me fall in love with Positano! A sweet love story that had such detailed descriptions of the landscapes and culture, that I knew I had to see it one day. I will!
I did do the hikes at cinque terre and loved it all. Tho the day after we did it was the day of the landslides at the “walk of lovers-the walk of locks”, and it was a sad day for all there.
Cannot wait to read about your adventures! I’m not on FB so I do hope you post some images here as well!!
Thanks for the memories this morning…

I first fell in love with Positano and the Amalfi Coast when I saw the movie “Under the Tuscan Sun. I never dreamed that I would actually see it. My opportunity came several years later when I took a trip with my Italian studies teacher to study at Sant’Anna Institute in Sorrento! Well, needless to say, I fell in love! I found a little studio to rent in Sorrento and I have been going back ever since. It’s an easy trip to Amalfi from Sorrento! I always try to explore more of the Amalfi coast every time I go back. Last May it was Cetara, Maiore and Vietri sul Mare…love!!! I will also be back at the end of September and I know I will be doing more exploring! Buon viaggio a te!
